BLACK WATCH ROYAL HIGHLANDERS of CANADA SPORRAN BADGE DESCRIPTION Atractive white metal Sporran badge from the Black Watch Royal Highlanders of Canada. The badge is in fantastic condition and features St. Andrew carrying the cross standing on a ground of thistles. There is a wide, flat metal plate on the back with slot and retaining pin for attachment to the sporran. It measures approx 4.3 cms (1 & 11/16 ins) high by three cms (1 & 3/16 ins) wide at the farthest points. The photograph does not do the badge justice. It is perfect for any collector, or anyone looking for a sporran badge, Pipe Band etc. Although the same design, this is NOT a cheap anodised version like the British Army style they wore in recent decades. The Regiment history dates from 1862, when the fifth Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles were raised in Montreal. They became the Royal Light Infantry of Montreal and in 1875, the fifth Bn Royal Fusiliers Montreal. In 1880, they were again re-named the fifth Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers Montreal and in 1884, the fifth Royal Scots of Canada. The Regiment supplied men to the Canadian Contingent during the Boer War and were awarded the Battle Honour, "South Africa 1899-1900". In 1904, the Regiment became the fifth Regiment Royal Scots of Canada Highlanders and 2 years later the fifth Regiment Royal Highlanders of Canada. During WW1, the Regiment supplied men to the 13th Battalion, 42nd Battalion and 73rd Battalion of the C.E.F., and perpetuate 23 WW1 Battle Honours from those units. In 1920, the Regiment became the Royal Highlanders of Canada and in 1935 they finally became the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. During WW2, the Regiment mobilised on September first, 1939, embarking for the U.K. in August 1940. Three Platoons of the Regiment took part in the Dieppe Raid of August 19th, 1942. The remainder of the Regiment served in the U.K. until they landed in Normandy on June sixth, 1944, as part of the second Canadian Infantry Division. They were awarded nineteen Battle Honours for service in WW2. Six members of the Regiment have been awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for valour in the Commonwealth. The Regiment were allied to it's British Army sister unit, the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), (now Royal Regiment of Scotland). The Regiments Colonel-in-Chief is H.R.H. Prince Charles. Excellent item for any Canadian, British Commonwealth, or Scottish related insignia collector. PAYMENT Please make payment within five days of purchase.
